Ow, how is it that only after a week of inactivity, guitar callouses would soften up so quickly?

And.. big chance of rain headed in this direction this week.

=)

Back in Berkeley. Drive up was okay; hit a lot of traffic right before the 580. But being stuck in traffic wasn't that bad because Kristy and Sewon's new kitten entertained us (Hannah, Angie, me). The kitten is adorable. =) Just wait till it turns into a cat. =(

Happy 21st birthday again Sammy. It was great meeting up with you and the ol' Downey folks again. Downey representin'.

Have you ever read something so convicting that it kept you tossing and turning for hours at night? John Eldredge is such a powerful writer.. many more sleepless nights ahead of me until I finish his books.

I bought a grip of guitar strings at the new Guitar Center that opened in Cerritos. Finally, no more driving all the way to Fountain Valley. The guy gave me a really good deal on them and also threw in Korg guitar tuner for free! Hahah, shows how many guitar strings I bought.

Southern California weather is terrible. Impossible to see any stars due to the incredible amount of pollution we have down here.

Uh oh. I just burned an entire batch of my mom's spaghetti sauce.

I went to the kitchen to finish up some dishes when I realized one of the stove burners were still on, unmercifully burning away the sauce that was inside the pot for the past two hours. Great. I quickly turned off the stove.. I looked inside and saw that there wasn't much left. The bottom interior of the pot was plastered with a soot-like layer of black charred spaghetti sauce.. And it smelled exactly like "han-yak" (that sick-smelling asian medicine), I kid you not. Sigh..my mom just made this spaghetti sauce today too. For half and hour, I tried scrubbing away at the charred layer without success, and I accidentally got some black/brittle/charred/alien spaghetti on my shirt in the process.

I'm going to bed. I need my rest to apologize in the morning.

Thanks GC for the invitation to watch the Lakers/Rockets game tonight. Laker-Vindicator rose victoriously over the despairing Laker-Hater once again. Giancarlo, you stinkin' live in LA county man.. remember your roots!

Something incredible happened. I didn't encounter one single red light when I was driving to and back from Del Taco at 10pm tonight. That is about.. twenty stop lights I had to drive through? Simply incredible.. I mean, what are the chances!

Dontcha love it when that happens? ;)

Quotes from movies I've watched so far this spring break:

1) I Am Sam - All you need is love (Lucy)
2) The Iron Giant - No Atomo.. I Superman! (Iron Giant)
3) Shawshank Redemption - The funny thing is, on the outside, I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook. (Andy Dufresne)
4) Patch Adams - You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I'll guarantee you'll win. (Patch)

Reading up on the war and watching the highlights on television these days.. still hard to absorb. Knowing that you have a loved one, by that I mean "friend you consider as family," bravely fighting over there and doing what he was trained to do as a marine makes me feel both immense pride and fear for him. We can only pray.

Come back safely Daniel.

I'm still alive, even though this blog wasn't this past week. o_O

But SPRING BREAK is here. Have a great school-free week everyone!

***Thank you Karen, for the great cookies. =)

***Thank you Jahndee, for your packets of leftover meat that'll I'll probably finish by this Tuesday or Wednesday.

***Amanda, hope you fully recover from the softball injury. Hey, share some of your jjah-jjahng-myun, you selfish.

And lastly, POTCH this past Friday was awesome. Because God is awesome.

"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it."

Had a really blessed experience at InterPraise tonight. It's a refreshing reminder to know that there are many other campus fellowships out there.. yes, there is a world outside the FiCB/KCPC bubble guys. It was an amazing experience to worship together under the same roof.

And POTCH is... tonight. Wow.

105 Northgate, 7pm everyone!

I'm very blessed by the guys in my small group, especially by our two freshmen, Danny and Clarence. In my freshman year, I was no where as close in maturity or their understanding of God as they are right now. It's humbling to know how much can be learned from people who are younger than you are.

Stopped by Capri after small group and had a good helping of eye candy of good-looking Andy and Billy. Not Paul though.. he keeps making fun of my mom. Also, he's taken, so I can't really publicize him anyways.

I got a pepperoni Hot Pocket and a bag of Cheetos at 7-11 afterwards. Not Flamin' Hot Cheetos.. just the good ol' regular Cheetos. I have to lick my fingers every single time I eat one because they're so dang cheesy! I catch myself wiping my fingers on my jeans or my socks. Then I reach in the bag for another one.

Hahah, Roach is a funny guy. For the past two hours, he's been sitting in front of his computer, following the Wizards/Magic basketball game like the faithful Jordan fan he is. No, there's no visual clips of the basketball game, no excited commentator announcing the plays in real-time over the internet.. nothing like that.

Rather, the screen would refresh every thirty seconds or so, listing a couple sentences of the most recent developments in the game. Then Roach gets really excited:

Ex:
WAS: Michael Jordan defense Rebound.
WAS: Michael Jordan made Dunk. Assisted by Charles Oakley.
ORL: Orlando Full Timeout.

ALEX s HYUN: two point lead
b o y 52: dood
ALEX s HYUN: one point lead
ALEX s HYUN: oooh..mcgrady choked
ALEX s HYUN: dang!!!
ALEX s HYUN: stupid laettner
ALEX s HYUN: whoo hooo!!!
ALEX s HYUN: jordan scored!
ALEX s HYUN: clutch baby!
b o y 52: niice
ALEX s HYUN: dang...this is intense
ALEX s HYUN: and sadly...very pathetic
b o y 52: serious
b o y 52: youre just reading a buncha sentences
ALEX s HYUN: haha
ALEX s HYUN: i know
ALEX s HYUN: and they're not even very detailed sentences
ALEX s HYUN: I <3 the Lakers

Hahah, just kidding.. I just made up his last comment. I really love Roach. And on that note, who wouldn't love the Lakers?? FOURPEAT, here we come!
Generous and Loving Paul cooked dinner for me and Nancy tonight. He made this experimental ramyun mixed with green onions, spam, and dduk (little dough slices). Dinner was great until near the end of the meal, when Nancy said something really really funny about pogs (I can't post it here). Too bad that I was in the middle of swallowing a piece of dduk when she said that, and I started choking on it.

But I was okay. After a couple moments of choking, I regained control of my throat and took a big sip of water. At that point, Paul said something along the lines of "I'll save you Roy," and then decides to give me the Heimlich maneuver after I was all okay. Without warning, he comes behind my back, picks me up from the waist, and starts to unmercifully heimlich me, that jerkface. I don't think it was even a real heimlich.. it just felt like he was giving me a bear hug from behind. I still had water in my mouth, so I had no choice to spit it out along with little chunks of dduk onto the kitchen table (sorry Andy and Billy).

Thanks Nancy for being so funny, and Paul for decreasing my life span by two months. Again, fifteen months and counting till graduation. I do not hope to experience more memorable nights like these before I graduate and leave for GrownUp-Ville.

Right now, I discovered that the socks I'm wearing are different lengths. What an already-crazy Monday.

Sunday, March 09, 2003

Yesterday, I went to Geneva's with Pablo for the first time. The sandwiches were actually pretty good, but the wait was ridiculous. Paul eats/looks like a horse. (that's for making fun of my mom so many times and for not updating your blog.)

Later that night, me, Andy, Chuck and Billy had a spontaneous praise jam session. Billy made a brilliant suggestion to borrow Dave's djembe drum to play, but unfortunately did not happen because Dave was sleeping.

So what did Mr. SexyKu do? He got the kitchen trashcan, emptied its contents, turned it over and using his empty Sprite bottle as a drumstick, started to rhythmically beat it along to the tunes of "King Jesus is all!" and "There is no rock like our God!" What a fun night.

Fifteen months and counting till graduation. I hope to experience more memorable days like these before I graduate and leave for Grown-Up-Ville.

The freshmen left for their retreat today. I pray that they would have a great time as I certainly did freshman year.. and that they would grow closer together as a class while growing closer to Him.

Speaking of the freshman year retreat.. was there a reason why we split the boys and girls separately for skit groups? Since there were only same-sex groups, the Temptation Island skit with Eugene and Kwan and some other guys was disturbing. Especially when Eugene and Kwan reenacted that romantic scene from the Titanic, where Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are at the way front of the ship, and Leo is cradling Kate's outstretched arms from behind. But imagine Kwan as Kate and Huege as Leo.

Geewon's sg and Chris' sg went bowling last night. Edmund has a really professional form when he bowls. No wonder he kicked all our butts. In the end, Albany Bowl gave us a lot of coupons that'll give ya two free games if you purchase three games. I have a couple of those coupons, so holla if you want to go.

Afterwards, we went to denny's and had a joke-sharing session with a lot of people. Chris said one that's worth mentioning because it was so lame:

Chris: Okay guys, so how do you put an elephant in a refrigerator in three steps?

*everyone confused*

Chris: You open the refrigerator door, put the elephant in there, and then you shut the door!

*silence*

Chris: Okay okay, so how do you put a giraffe in a refrigerator in four steps?

someone chimes: You open the door, fold the giraffe in half, put the giraffe in there, and close the door...?

Chris: No no.. you open the door, take the elephant out, put the giraffe in, then close the door!

*someone starts to cry*

Five minutes later, our food comes out and people start eating.. but Chris is at it again:

Chris: Okay, here is one last joke. So it was Simba's birthday right?? Every animal shows up at that big ol' rock, Pride Rock, to celebrate his birthday.. all the animals are celebrating, going wild and having fun... but there was one animal that didn't show up. Who was it?? Give up??

It was the GIRAFFE!!

*the Denny's manager overhears this and kicks us out*

Okay, so maybe the last part didn't happen. Hahah chris, you're a funny girl. The Lion King was a really good movie.

I know this is old news, but they finally chose a building plan to construct in the area where the original World Trade Center once stood.

Aspect of the new building which most amazed me:
"A ¡°wedge of light¡± created by precise positioning of the future buildings that are to surround Ground Zero, so that every year on Sept. 11 a shaft of unshadowed sunlight will fall onto a public square from 8:46 a.m. ET (when the first plane crashed into the North Tower) to 10:28 a.m. ET (when it collapsed, after South Tower went down.)"

Wow, Daniel Libeskind is definitely a genius. I can't even read a sundial. I hope to visit New York by the time this 1,776 ft tall dream becomes a reality.

Last night, softball was really fun. I'm glad that I'm playing as catcher, because I have a nice panoramic view of Kwan, Wolverine, Ackmase, Pablo, Heuge, Roberto, Chris, jOhNsOnG, and Dank while they're out on the field. Any girl's dream!

I hope that our constant AIM chatting and text messaging wouldn't deteriorate human communication down to this level.

Neat. Today's date is 03-03-03. What an especially special 21st birthday for Hiyas! Happy Birthday!

Had a blast at the Jr/Sr BART Extravaganza fellowship! Big major props to Sewon, Haewon, Jahndee and Basile. Thank you guys for putting a lot of time and prayer into it.
